Frickley Athletic Football Club, affectionately known as “The Blues,” is a non-league football club based in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, England. The club has a rich history deeply rooted in the local coal mining community.
Perhaps their most famous achievement was their FA Cup run in the 1985-86 season, where they reached the Third Round Proper. They famously beat Football League side Hartlepool United before losing 3-1 at home to local rivals Rotherham United in front of a record crowd of 5,800 at their Westfield Lane ground. They also reached the FA Trophy Quarter Finals in 1984-85.
Recent History:
After a period in the top tier of non-league football, Frickley returned to the NPL. In 2017, they were relegated to the NPL Division One South and currently compete in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
Home Ground:
Frickley Athletic has played its home games at Westfield Lane since 1910. The ground has a capacity of 2,087 (490 seated). The main stand was reportedly built by local miners during a strike in the 1920s, highlighting the deep community ties of the club.
Everyone at Maghull is hugely excited about the game which will be an all ticket event.
