Bittersweet Victory for the 1st Team.
Vauxhall Motors Reserves 1 – 2 Maghull
It’s always a tough journey over the water against Vauxhall’s and today as no differen as the boys had to battle hard against a Motors’ side containing no fewer than 4 of their 1st team players from 3 Steps higher in the Football Pyramid.
After a shaky start we took control of the game and deserved to take the lead but this was later cancelled out by a highly controversial goal scored in the direct aftermath of a clear handball which the officials chose to ignore.
As the game grew on the boys piled on the pressure and a times it seemed it just wasn’t going to happen. Motors’ started to lose their dicipline and saw a player sin binned for the use of foul language towards the Assistant Referee, with the additional man we were still unable to break down a very resiliant defence but more drama was still to come!
Very late into the game our hard work was rewarded as Darren’s late goal secured the victory and the points. More was yet to come as with 30 seconds of the game remaining Motors’ went on the attack, a long ball forward appeared to be offside and several of our lads displayed their anger towards the Assistant Referee. As the attack broke down for a throw in the Referee stopped play and took the decision to show a Red Card to our Goalkeeper for the use of foul language towards the Assistant on the far side.
With Callum now suspended for the hge Semi Final against FC Bootle next week it’s a bitter after taste for a well battled result.
