Maghull Maintain Strong Start with Hard-Fought Win at AFC Blackpool.

Saturday, August 9, 2025 saw the 1st team secure a thrilling 1-2 victory over AFC Blackpool in the NWCFL 1st Division North.

Match Summary: Maghull FC’s positive start to the season continued on Saturday, August 9th, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against AFC Blackpool at the Mechanics Ground in our 1st away game of the season.

In a game that was a true test of character, Maghull’s resilience and determination were on full display, securing all three points and maintaining the team’s strong momentum.

The atmosphere was tense from the kick-off, with both sides eager to assert themselves. The game was an even contest, a classic away day battle where neither team was willing to give an inch. It was the home side, AFC Blackpool, who drew first blood, with David Lang finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute.

Conceding on the road can often be a psychological blow, but Maghull’s response was swift and decisive. Just four minutes later, Harrison Worden showed great composure, with a fantastic free-kick, to level the scores at 1-1, ensuring the teams went into halftime all square.

The second half was a tense, cagey affair. Both teams created chances, but a combination of solid defending and excellent goalkeeping kept the scores level. The game looked to be heading for a draw until a moment of magic from Nathan Moffitt! In the 79th minute, he broke the deadlock, scoring what would prove to be the winning goal for Maghull.

The late strike was a just reward for the team’s persistence and hard work. Securing three points on the road is never easy, and this victory against a determined AFC Blackpool side is a testament to the squad’s quality and depth. It shows that the team can not only dominate at home but can also dig deep and secure results in difficult circumstances. This win, coupled with our recent performances, has put us in a great position early in the season.

The players deserve immense credit for their performance, and we thank our travelling supporters who made the journey to Blackpool to cheer the team on. Their vocal backing made a huge difference and helped the team get over the line. This weekend, we’ll be looking to carry this momentum into our next fixture. The new season is well and truly underway, and it’s shaping up to be a very exciting one for Maghull FC.
